FAQ Coronavirus

COVID 19 furniture delivery

We have taken some time to put together a local delivery and shipping strategy to ensure we all stay safe in these strange times

Q. Is ecochair.ch still offering local delivery and shipping during the pandemic?

Yes! We can normally deliver things to you within 3 - 5 days. We had some delays in the second half of March, but things should run more smoothly now as long as there are no new restrictions.

Q. What precautions are you taking?

We are a small team and we do the packaging ourselves. No one with any kind of symptoms is allowed to touch anything!! Just in case, before ecochair.ch touches the furniture, our hands are washed, and we wear gloves - and masks if we are packaging it. The furniture for local deliveries will only be handled by someone wearing gloves.

When we receive your order for local Basel delivery, we will follow-up with you by email to confirm the date and time of your delivery. To ensure the health of the person who delivers your furniture, they will telephone you when they arrive with your delivery and will place it outside your front door of your building. You will not be required to sign anything. The person who delivers it will not ring the doorbell or open the door after they have telephoned you.

For shipments outside of the Basel area, we package the items in boxes ourselves following the above mentioned practices, and use SwissPost for delivery: you can read more about the precautions they are taking here.

Q. How do you make sure your delivery people aren't passing the virus on from one delivery to the next?

For our local deliveries, we will not physically touch anything other than the package itself (no doorbells, no door handles, no elevator buttons) and will telephone on arrival, so that there is no need to come into close contact with the people receiving the deliveries or in contact with any surfaces at the delivery addresses. That keeps you and us safe.

Q. I have heard that the virus can live on cardboard for 24 hours. Should I be worried about the furniture packaging?

No. The  World Health Organization (WHO) has said the likelihood of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 (Coronavirus) from a package that has been moved, travelled, and exposed to different conditions and temperature is low. You can read the original article that mentions the 24 hours on cardboard here, in the New England Journal of Medicine.

In our case, there is very little chance that either the furniture or the packaging would come into contact with the virus.

For shipments outside of the Basel area, we package the items in boxes ourselves following the above mentioned practices, and use SwissPost for delivery: you can read more about the precautions they are taking here.

If you are still feeling unsure, you can designate a corner or room for new packages and leave them isolated for at least 24 hours, making sure you wash your hands after you have brought them in.

Q. I am in quarantine / self-isolation. Can you still deliver to me?

Yes. Please note that as we won't bring your order inside the building, if you are quarantined inside an apartment and cannot come to the front door, you must arrange for a neighbour to bring it from the front door to you.

For shipping, e.g. outside of Basel, we use SwissPost and you can read more about the precautions they are taking here.

Q. I really want to view / test-sit some chairs before I buy them. Can I still reserve something to view it?

Yes-ish. Our showroom is not open, but we may be able to arrange a viewing at your place of residence, if you live in the Basel area. If we bring furniture to be viewed at your residence, the following conditions must be met:

- The viewing must take place outside, therefore it can't be raining

- You must wear gloves (you must wash your hand before putting on the gloves and must not touch any surfaces with the gloves before handling the furniture)

- You must be symptom free for at least 48 hours prior (this means not even a little cough or slight headache, nada!)

- If you tested positive for Coronavirus but didn't have symptoms, you must have completed the 10 day quarantine

 - You must pay with a contactless card, if you decided to purchase the items(s)

You can use the regular 'reserve' button and we will follow-up with you by email.
